Sredska (Albanian: Sredsk\u00eb) is a settlement in the municipality of Prizren in Kosovo and Metohija. The settlement area is located on the territory of the cadastral municipality of Sredska, with an area of \u200b\u200b1236 ha. Sredska is the central settlement of the Sredska \u017dupa, after which the \u017eupa was named. It is located in southern Metohija, 13 km from the city of Prizren. Sredska was first mentioned in the 14th century in 1348. The Serbian emperor Stefan Du\u0161an donated the village and the \u017eupa to his endowment \u2014 the monastery of St. Archangel near Prizren. A kind of isolation during the Turkish rule contributed to the fact that the locals have a characteristic speech, costume and customs.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\nThe village is located at the foot of the mountains, \u0160ar Planina and O\u0161ljak, in the upper reaches of the Prizrenska Bistrica River. It is located in the municipality of Prizren in Metohija.\n\nThe village is of a relatively scattered type, located on the main road Prizren - Brezovica - Ka\u010danik - Skopje. It consists of seven hamlets, four to the right of the Bistrica River (Bogo\u0161evci, Pali\u0107oj\u0107i, Pej\u010di\u0107i and Ra\u010doj\u0107i), while three are to the left of the river (Kraj\u0107i, Mila\u010di\u0107i and Stajkovce).\n\nIn the village there are the remains of the church of St. Petka, which is mentioned in the Archangel's Charter, the remains of the church of St. George with frescoes from the first half of the 16th century and the church of St. Bogorodica from the same time, as well as the church of St. Nicholas, which was built in 1875.\n\nThe hamlet of Bogosevci is mentioned in the Holy Archangel Charter of the Serbian Emperor Stefan Du\u0161an from 1348. There are remains of two churches in the village. The Church of St. Nicholas is located in the village cemetery. The church's vita is the work of village craftsmen from the late 16th and early 17th centuries. The church houses an extremely rare and valuable example of a hanging censer from the 14th century.\n\nIn the hamlet of Pej\u010di\u0107i there is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The church contained an antimins with a handwritten inscription by Patriarch Arsenij IV. At the end of the inscription is the year 1725, so it is assumed that the church was probably built then.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\nThe Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas in Sredska, built in the 16th century, is located in the center of the village. It was originally built with slag, a mud that quickly hardens and petrifies. The church was expanded in 1875, when it was raised more than a meter high, so that it could accommodate three times as many people. The contractor who worked on the expansion paid for it with his head. He was slaughtered by the Turks on the threshold of the church because he did not bury the church two steps into the ground, as was prescribed for Christian places of worship, but only one step. He was buried in front of the church gate, and later they continued to bury the dead, until then each hamlet had its own cemetery. Thus, the Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas in Sredska became a cemetery church.\n

\nThe Church of the Holy Virgin in Sredska (Pej\u010di\u0107i) \u2014 is located above the hamlet of Pej\u010di\u0107i, and dates back to the Nemanji\u0107 era. A service in this church is held once a year on August 28, on the feast of the Assumption, when people of all faiths from the entire parish gather here.\n

\nThe Church of St. Nicholas in the hamlet of Bogo\u0161evac, dates back to the 12th century and is the oldest church in the Sredska \u017dupa, the frescoes are still preserved today. The outer narthex with the bell tower was built about 30 years ago.\n

\nThe Church of St. George in Sredska (Mila\u010di\u0107i) \u2014 was built sometime in the 16th century, and is located in the hamlet of Mila\u010di\u0107i. The church contains a stone and a candlestick from the Monastery of St. Archangel, near Prizren. It so happened that the founder of this small church, passing by the monastery at the time when it was being destroyed by the Turks, at the beginning of the sixteenth century, saw this candlestick thrown into the river, picked it up and brought it to his endowment, the penitential church. The church is very small, cramped, but it was rich in frescoes of great artistic value. Unfortunately, the frescoes were destroyed during the renovation of the roof and the whitewashing of the interior walls, only a few fragments remain.\n

\nAlso in the village there used to be the church of St. Theotokos and St. Petka, which were the burial churches of individual hamlets.\n

\nThe Monastery of the Holy Archangels \u2013 located 9 km from the village, was built from 1343 to 1352, as an endowment of the Serbian Emperor Du\u0161an. The emperor, in his founding charter, donated 93 villages to the monastery, including the village of Sredska.
